If you have purchased and stored music with Google, you can stream it to Windows Phone using Gooroovster. Much like Microsoft and Apple Google has entered into the realm of selling and streaming music via a digital music locker. The Windows Phone App Gooroovster is nice app that allows you to log into your Google account and play your music.
Here is our Gooroovster Review:
Cost And Connection
Gooroovster is more on the expensive side when it comes to apps, as it is 3.99 however, for a version 1 app, the developer has done a great job. I had no issue connecting to my Google accounts and seeing the list of music files that I had uploaded. There is even a refresh button if you want to force the app to check for newly added music.
Navigating
Following the Metro UI design Gooroovster uses text as the main standout where you only see the album art when playing a track or viewing albums. Moreover, swiping side-to-side gives you different ways to sort your content such as by artist, albums, and songs. One thing to note is that Google Music supports online playlist and it is supported in Gooroovster. All of the different screens support navigation much like the Windows Phone People Hub or apps list.
Music Controls
The only aspect that was not supported was downloading music for offline listening. While listening to music, you have all the controls you would expect such as Play, Pause, and Skipping tracks are all available on the player. Unfortunately, seeking by pressing and holding the track forward button does not work. In addition, when you pause a track then hit play, it seems to go back to the beginning of the track. Finally, as it should be, music streaming under the lock screen does work.
Volume
One issues that I found with Gooroovster is the Volume level seemed very low. It was not so low that it was bothersome more to the point when you hear a song you really like you may not be able to to really get into it. I am not sure if this is something that can be fixed but we hope so.
Conclusion
Gooroovster in its first release is a solid application for Windows Phone 7. If you are a Google Music user, switching to Windows Phone 7, you may initially miss the off line listening. Keep in mind that Windows Phone does have a music ecosystem where you can store music on the phone already. There are a few minor issues with the app but we do not think it should take too long to fix. If you are a Google Music user, on Windows Phone, Gooroovster is sure to make you happy.
You can get Gooroovster in the Windows Phone Marketplace.
