Apple isn’t the only one going to work on making the mapping experience more palatable in the coming iOS 6 release.  Apparently Microsoft is doing some work of their own to replace Bing Maps with a more robust and feature rich version of Nokia Maps.

These and other features including integrated Skype (which has had cellular network support for quite some time, about time Apple ), updated voice tools (Ask Ziggy is also up for a serious overhaul) and the platform will be built on WinRT (vs. WinCE).  It looks to us like Windows Phone will be on par if not ahead of the game (compared to iOS 6, no NFC support?) when Windows Phone 8 ships later this year.
